Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over twenty-one. Treatment for adults often involves coordination with other dental practitioners—periodontists, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, etc. This team effort helps to ensure that patients receive the optimal care and will obtain the best results. Aesthetic appliances and invisalign-type appliances are often offered to adults if their particular situation would benefit from these types of treatment. In certain situations, jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) may be recommended if the alignment of the jaws needs improvement for the success of the treatment.
